7 Arrows Ranch

Val Verde County

DESCRIPTION

The 7 Arrows Ranch is located on the southwestern portion of the Edwards Plateau, 44 miles south of Ozona, Texas. These 1,904.72 acres, situated right on the northern end of Val Verde County, are characterized by multiple deep canyons, grassy plateaus, and long vistas in every direction. The beautiful views and vast landscape are just a few of the numerous outstanding features of this Southwest Texas ranch.

IMPROVEMENTS: There is existing electrical service on the ranch.

WATER: No water well on the ranch. A well would need to be drilled, or water would need to be hauled in.

WILDLIFE: Native game: The ranch has abundant wildlife, including Whitetail Deer, Wild Hogs, Aoudad, Turkey, Dove, and Predators.

LIVESTOCK: The average stocking rate for this area is 64 acres/animal unit. The terrain is best suited to run sheep and goats, but additional water and fencing would be necessary. The ranch has been rested from grazing for quite some time.

VEGETATION HABITAT AND SOIL: The topography and terrain of the 7 Arrows Ranch provide excellent habitat and cover for wildlife. Shallow, rocky soils cover most of the ranch, with deeper, loamy soils in the bottomlands. This ranch supports a large diversity of browse, forbs, and grasses. Most of the property has light to moderate brush coverage, except for some canyon bottoms that are more heavily wooded. Red Berry Juniper and Mesquite are the primary trees, as are some oak trees dotted throughout the ranch. Other types of browse include Lotebush, Yucca, Sotal, Catclaw, and Prickly Pear. A few of the more notable grasses on the ranch include Sideoats Grama (the state grass of Texas), Blue Grama, Black Grama, Buffalograss, Little Bluestem, and Green Sprangletop. The growing season generally begins in the middle of May and ends towards the end of September. Annual rainfall for this area is 18”+/-.

TOPOGRAPHY: Three main canyon systems with multiple draws cut through the ranch, running mainly from West to Southeast. The elevation ranges from 1,900 ft – 2,240 ft.
