Habitat/Vegetation: The ranch is predominately composed of red sand soil with thick brush motts and open manicured pasture. Extensive brush work has been completed across the ranch with significant amount of brush being roller chopped in recent years. All cleared areas have been seeded with King Seeds mix of 17 native grasses. Medio Creek, a seasonal waterway traverses the ranch adding additional cover for game.

Water: A Carrizo water well near the homes is capable of pumping 300+ GPM. An additional domestic well near the headquarters feeds the properties six concrete storage tanks and system of concrete water troughs. There is one large lake in the northwest corner of the property that is over three acres in size when full. The pond catches water from seasonal Medio Creek which also dissects the ranch.

Wildlife: The focus at the Rafter R has been on development of its whitetail deer herd and quail population. The brush management plan and supplemental feeding programs have resulted in not only larger numbers of game, but exceptional deer quality. Aside from deer and quail, all other native game is found on the ranch. The property is under MLDP Level 3 permit.
